Prerequisite: Foods & Nutrition or Skills for Life - An accelerated fast paced foods course for students who have mastered the basics, are comfortable planning, measuring & mixing in the kitchen & want to expand their cooking skills. The first half of class will focus on a food related “journey” studying foods, culture, and recipes of the various U.S. regional areas. The second half will be spent exploring international culture, cuisine, & preparing student selected recipes.
Students will learn about saving money and investing. Students will complete projects involving budgeting, credit, purchasing a car, career & college. Students will play the minimum wage game, participate in a banking simulation, a state-wide stock market competition & complete comparison shopping activities and other various finance-related projects. All assignments will be tracked and managed via spreadsheets. Most coursework will be completed during class.
Want to design & create sewing projects for yourself or others? Students will master basic skills of controlling and operating the sewing machine. They will make informed decisions with the purchase & use of patterns, fabrics & notions. Students will work individually on projects, which may include sewing cool accessories, fun crafts, gift items & creative clothing. Projects will be individualized to meet student needs, abilities & experience levels with an emphasis on customization.
